All oil production in one of Dubai’s four oil fields has been suspended after a helicopter crashed into an oil platform, killing all seven people on board, including a Briton.
Petrofac said all operations in the Rashid oil field have been suspended until further notice.
The United Arab Emirates is the world’s third-largest exporter of oil. It is not known what percentage comes from the Rashid field.
The Aerogulf Bell 212 was carrying two pilots and five contractors working for British oil and gas services company Petrofac.
It crashed and exploded on Wednesday during take-off from a drilling rig about 40 miles off Dubai. A fire broke out on the deck of the oil rig but was quickly brought under control.
The Emirati aviation authorities said the victims were a Briton, an American, two Indians, a Pakistani, a Filipino and a Venezuelan national. — (telegraph.co.uk)
